Game 18 vs. Hanover Falcons #2
The Walkerton Capitals would travel across Highway #4 on
Monday, January 22nd, 2018 to play the Hanover Falcons #2 team. This game would feature outstanding hockey
played by both teams and the game would be contested right down to the final
buzzer.
The first period and the two teams would battle back and forth end to end from the opening face off. The two goalies would each be outstanding in net each one making several key saves in the opening period. The two teams would each have several scoring chances but after the first 10 minutes of play it would be a stalemate tied at 0.
The second period would again see the game continue at a feverous pace. Again each team would have several scoring opportunities only to have the goalies continue to put on the show that they started in the first. Hanover would open the scoring with just over 2 minutes remaining. The Capitals would respond with only 9 seconds remaining when Tyler Wallace would find the back of the net, assists were awarded to Liam Osborne and Scott McTeer. The score would be knotted at 1-1 as the horn sounded for the conclusion of the second.
The third period would have the teams yet again battle back and forth, while scoring chances would be there for both teams it was solid defensive play and several key saves from the goaltenders that kept the game close. Walkerton would go ahead with 2:59 remaining when Cobi Johnson tucked the puck past the Hanover net-minder. The unassisted goal would stand up and lift the Capitals to a 1 goal victory.
This was an exciting and entertaining game for the spectators watching as the game unfolded. The Capitals played a very strong game with strong back-checking an exceptional passing game and outstanding goal tending.
