Game 14 - Exhibition vs. Blyth-Brussels Crusaders
The Walkerton Capitals would travel to Brussel to play an exhibition game against the Blyth-Brussels Crusaders on Saturday, December 16th.  The Capitals would be a couple of players short and the coaching staff would juggle lines throughout the game against one of the top teams in the South Division.

The game would start with each team testing the oppositions goalie early.  The Walkerton forwards would ring two off the post before Tyler Wallace would take a cross ice pass from Ryan Graul and slide it five hole on the Brussels goalie with 5:31 remaining.  The Capitals would take a 1-0 lead after ten minutes of play.

The back and forth play would continue with the start of the second period.  Walkerton’s, Ryan Hinsperger would make several outstanding saves to keep the Capitals in the lead.  Walkerton would score its second goal 9 minutes into the period when Cayleb Peitz found the top corner after completing a great passing play from Carson Filsinger and Xander Thornton.  The Walkerton players would continue to fire pucks at the Brussels net-minder and would add its third goal when Cobi Johnson would score while on a break away with 9.5 seconds remaining unassisted.  The teams would go to the dressing rooms at the end of the second with Walkerton holding a 3-0 lead.

The third period would start with each team taking several penalties but neither would be able to capitalize on its man advantage.  Walkerton’s, Jack Walter would fire a wrist shot stick side that would beat the goalie after intercepting a pass at the blue line with 8:33 remaining. The Crusaders team would continue to fire pucks on the Walkerton net but again some outstanding goal tending and the blocking of shots by the defence would prevent any goals against the Capitals.  The scoring would wrap up with 5:55 remaining when Cobi Johnson scored his second of the game after Colby Schmidt sent a pass through the goal crease to the open Johnson at the side of the net.

Walkerton would win this exhibition game through hard work and smart heads up play.  Several players would end up playing positions that they normally wouldn’t but did so effectively.  Players would put their bodies in front of shots that came from the Blyth-Brussels blue line that would cause them to hobble back to the bench.  The passing and positional play was outstanding right throughout the game.
