The first period would start off quickly for the Storm who would open the scoring just 2:05 into the period. The Capitals would score with 3:04 remaining when Jack Walter jumped on a rebound before firing the puck into the Storms net, assist was credited to Cayleb Peitz. Just 22 seconds later Walkerton would score again when Cayleb Peitz split through the defence and fired a wrist shot into the top corner. Walkerton would lead 2-1 after the first period.
The Capitals would come out firing and would be rewarded throughout the second period. Cayleb Peitz would score 46 seconds into the period after taking a pass from Jack Walter. Kyle Romphf would score after taking a pass from Colby Schmidt and Cobi Johnson with 11:44 remaining. Only 7 seconds later after the face off Carson Filsinger would send a stretched pass to a streaking Cayleb Peitz who completed his hat trick with his third goal of the game. The scoring would continue when Cobi Johnson would fire stick side and into the net unassisted at 7:55 while on the power play. Walkerton would then score with 5:37 remaining when Connor Farrell deflected a Scott McTeer shot from the point that found the corner of the net. Jack Walter would record his second of the game after jumping on a rebound and lifting the puck over the Storm goalie, assisting on the play were Scott McTeer and Matthew McNaughton. The Capitals would then score with 1:55 left in the period as Cayleb Peitz scored his fourth of the game assisted by Jack Walter. After two periods of play Walkerton would lead 9-1.
The third period would see the two teams keep both goalies busy. Walkerton’s Cobi Johnson would score his second of the game at 11:16. The Storm offence would turn up the heat and pepper Walkerton’s Ryan Hinsperger, who would be called upon to make several key saves. Saugeen Shores would score twice late in the period but the Walkerton lead would be insurmountable.
A full team effort once again, strong two play from everyone, back checking and excellent puck control were keys to the teams success yet again.
