Game 6 vs. Bruce Peninsula Northstars
The Walkerton Capitals would travel north on Saturday,
November 4th to play the Bruce Peninsula Northstars in Lions
Head. The Capitals would use its speed
and passing game to once again take play to the opposition.
The Capitals would open the scoring 1:11 into the first period when Carson Filsinger scored after lifting the puck over the Northstars goalie who was attempting to cover up the loose puck, assists were credited to Cayleb Peitz and Jack Walter. Walkerton would add a second goal just over 2 minutes later when Tyler Wallace would send a pass from behind the net to Matthew McNaughton on the blue line who then sent a cross ice pass to Scott McTeer who fired a shot from the top of the face off circle and beat the Northstars net minder. The scoring would continue when Cody Brown would break out of the defensive zone and pass to Cobi Johnson who then set up Kyle Romphf whose wrist shot would find the back of the net. The Capitals would control a lot of the time in the offensive zone and would again be rewarded when Cayleb Peitz slid the puck into the Northstars net after taking a pass from Carson Filsinger and Jack Walter. The scoring would wrap up in the first period when Colby Schmidt jumped on a rebound while on a power play with just 5.6 seconds remaining, assist was awarded to Kyle Romphf. The Capitals would lead 5-0 after the first period.
The second period would start with Walkerton scoring just 10 seconds into the frame when Tyler Wallace and Ryan Graul would work a perfect give and go passing play that had Tyler fire the puck over the glove of the goalie. The two teams would then settle into back and forth rushes that would give each team opportunities to score as the period continued. Each goalie would make several impressive saves. Walkerton would score with 5:20 remaining when Scott McTeer scored his second of the game when a shot from the point made it through a crowd of players to find the back of the net.
The third period would find the Capitals run into some penalty issues but were able to kill off all three penalties. Half way through the period Jack Walter would slide the puck into the open corner of the net after taking a pass from Carson Filsinger.
The Walkerton Capitals would win the game in a convincing manner. The passing game was stellar while the defensive core would shut down the North Star opposition. Ryan Hinsperger would record his second shut out of the year.
