With
support from peewee goalie Ryan Hinsperger, the Walkerton Capitals bantam boys skated
to a 3-2 win over the Owen Sound Junior Attack #1 on home ice Dec. 30.
Hinsperger was called up in late December after bantam goal tender Lucas Rowe fractured his foot. Hinsperger has been solid for the bantam Capitals, who wish Rowe a speedy recovery.
Walkerton went ahead 1-0 in the dying minutes of the first when Tayt Weber scored on a pass from Kobe Dautey and Simon Field. Back and forth goals in the second frame - including a power play marker from the Capitals - left the teams tied at two goals apiece. Logan Morrison scored for Walkerton, assisted by Braydan Grife and Dylan Reay.
Craig Reaman netted the game-winner for the home team with one minute left in the third. Morrison and Dautey picked up the helpers while Hinsperger earned the win in net.
The Capitals didn’t fare so well in earlier games on the road, losing 7-2 to the Kincardine Kinucks #2 in Tiverton on Dec. 22, and falling 10-1 to the Bruce Peninsula Northstars in Lions Head on Dec. 17.
Walkerton returns to action this weekend with the team entering the Dairy Queen Challenge Cup tournament in South Huron.
