Dairy Queen Challenge Cup re-cap
The Walkerton Capitals bantam boys posted a 1-1-1 round-robin record at the Dairy Queen Challenge Cup Tournament in South Huron last weekend, good enough to advance them to the semi-finals.

Sponsored by the Walkerton-Hanover Vet Clinic and Walkerton Dental Centre, the bantams won their first game 5-1 Friday against the Barrie Colts. Braydan Grife scored twice for Walkerton with single markers from Simon Field, Keaton Eidt and Alex Brandt. Assists went to Kobe Dautey, Luke Schmidt and Tyler Crummer. Ryan Hinsperger picked up the win in net while Brandt was named most valuable player of the game.

The Capitals were awarded a tie for their second game when opponents from Strathroy were unable to attend the tournament Saturday morning due to poor weather conditions.

In their final game of the round robin, played Saturday evening, Walkerton skated hard and played their best game of the tournament, but lost 1-0 to the Lambton Shores Predators. Eidt and Hinsperger shared the MVP honours.

Walkerton met a strong team from Dorchester in the semi-finals Sunday morning, and suffered a 7-2 loss. Dorchester scored three goals in the first period and the Capitals were unable to catch up, despite numerous power play opportunities. Field and Edit scored for Walkerton, assisted by game MVP Craig Reaman.

Dorchester went on to play the Mitchell Meteors in the final game of the bantam division, with Mitchell winning the cup by a 4-1 decision.

The local bantams are back to regular season action today when they travel to Paisley to face the AEMHA Ice Dogs. Walkerton will also visit the Hanover Falcons on Saturday.
