Shutout for Rowe as Walkerton wins 8-0
Lucas Rowe recorded his first shutout of the season Saturday when the Walkerton Capitals skated to an 8-0 victory at home over the Bruce Peninsula Northstars.

The peewee LL boys got off to a quick start with three first period goals by Kobe Dautey, Logan Morrison and Liam Osborne. Assists went to Brayden Grife, Kyle Romphf, Dautey and Dylan Reay.

Luke Schmidt put Walkerton up 4-0 early in the second, and Dautey buried a slapshot with five minutes left in the frame to extend the lead to five. Grife made it a 6-0 game just one minute later. Helpers in this period went to Dautey (2), Schmidt and Osborne.

In the third Justin Bell scored from Kody Brown and Tyler Wallace, with Dylan Reay rounding out the scoring for the 8-0 win. Dautey picked up the assist on the play, earning six points in the game. Alex Brandt and Xander Thornton had strong games on the blueline for the Capitals, while Rowe was solid in net to preserve the win.

The local peewees, sponsored by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102, travelled to Hanover Sunday to face off against the Falcons #2 team. The Walkerton players skated very well but suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of the third-place Falcons.

Hanover opened the scoring just over a minute into the game. Grife evened it up with an unassisted goal one minute later.

A fast-paced second period saw good scoring chances by both teams, including solid shots on net by Walkerton’s Cole Cassidy and Cobi Johnson. Quick feet and big saves at each end kept the game knotted at 1-1 until early in the third when the Falcons added a final goal to take the 2-1 win.

The Capitals are back on the ice Tuesday, Jan. 24 when they host Saugeen Shores #1 at 8 p.m.
