Bell scores twice for Walkerton in 3-2 win
The Walkerton Capitals peewee LL boys have evened their WOAA second round playoff series with the Blyth/Brussels Crusaders at one game apiece.

Sunday’s 3-2 win in Walkerton came on the heels of a 5-4 overtime loss in Blyth last week. Home ice advantage paid off for the Capitals, who are sponsored by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102.

Kyle Romphf put Walkerton on the board in the first two minutes of the game, assisted by Tyler Wallace and Alex Brandt. The Capitals went ahead 2-0 midway through the second when Justin Bell scored his first of two goals in the game. Bell was assisted by Cobi Johnson and Dylan Reay. Tayt Weber, Logan Morrison and Brayden Grife all had excellent scoring chances in this period.

Bell earned another point early in the third, scoring on a pass from Johnson to put his squad ahead 3-0. Blyth ruined the shutout for Walkerton netminder Lucas Rowe midway through the frame though, following a scramble in front of the home team’s net.Solid defence by Xander Thornton, Luke Schmidt and Liam Osborne proceeded to shut down Blyth’s top line.

The Crusaders pulled within one after knocking in a short-handed goal with 2:35 remaining in the third, but good heads-up plays by Cole Cassidy and Kobe Dautey paved the way for the Walkerton victory.

Post-season action continues for Walkerton on Wednesday, March 29 with a winner-takes-all game at 7:30 pm in Brussels.
