The Walkerton Capitals
remain at the top of the WOAA’s peewee silver north division after round-robin
playoff action in Mount Forest on Saturday.
With the score knotted at one apiece midway through the third, Walkerton’s Kobe Dautey netted the game-winner on a blistering slap shot. His unassisted goal gave the Capitals the 2-1 win.
The home team was first on the board, scoring on the power play midway through the second. Lucas Rowe made some huge saves for Walkerton to keep the visitors in the game.
Luke Schmidt tied it up in the dying minutes of the second, with helpers going to Logan Morrison and Alex Brandt.
There was some back-and-forth action in the third after Dautey’s goal. The Capitals had a short two-man advantage but Mount Forest skated hard to run the clock down.
Walkerton’s final game of the first round is Wednesday, March 8 against the West Grey Warriors #2. The top team in the north will move on to face the top team in the south in a best-of-three series.
