Tough Loss
Walkerton had a tough loss on Sunday at 5:30 against Mt. Forest. Refereeing was certainly a key factor as Walkerton could not get a break at any point.  The final score was 4-3 for Mt. Forest.

The Walkerton Power Worker's team had their first solid chance by Thomas Crummer on a pass from Michael McAskill.  At 4:28 of the first period, Mt. Forest got on the scoreboard first on a pass from one player back to a second player.  Moments later, Ben Schmidt was on fire, clearing the puck in the neutral zone.  Landon Moore, evened the game at one a piece on a shorthanded goal at 1:43.  A nice shot by Ty Arnold was also pushed aside.  With two men down, Walkerton showed determination and smart defensive plays.  They also had keen eyes from Christian Kieffer who read the play all the way, gloving a spectacular save to maintain the score at one each going into the second period.
Ryan Girdler displayed his speed and puck handling skills as he had a quality chance. This was followed by a shorthanded goal for Mt. Forest. They regained the lead, 2-1.  This was short lived as Michael McAskill and Landon Moore paired up for a game of hot potato. Landon scored on this creative play, inching Walkerton back into the game. Well done boys! As Walkerton continued to be called for penalties, Ty Arnold and Gina McKee rose to the occasion, clearing our zone repeatedly.  Austin Kelly had a great opportunity as well.  It was Landon's bullet shot from a long distance, that lingered by the goalie's glove that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.  Kieffer came up with some big saves for Walkerton.  The cheekiness of Mt. Forest was evident as they were getting away with very few penalties being called on them.  Despite this fact, Walkerton continued with their head in the game.  Landon Moore took his time and got lots of wood on his shot, beating the goaltender and giving Walkerton the lead for the first time in the game.  It was a very welcomed 3-2 lead for Walkerton.
As the third period commenced, Kieffer had to be on his game as Walkerton was killing off three penalties and the puck took a weird bounce on the boards.  Ryan Girdler, Noah Currie and Michael McAskill stepped up the the plate in penalty killing.  Gina McKee connected with Currie for a beautiful opportunity that was barely gloved. Mt. Forest put one by Kieffer, tying the game 3-3.  Walkerton continued to pour on pressure from Brett Wagner, Jayden Louther and Cody Jones.  There was also a good chance by Currie which Schmidt and Pletch were there to assist on, but it was narrowly smothered by the Mt. Forest goalie.  As the pressure ensued by both team in the dying minutes of the game, Mt. Forest scored on a failed attempt to clear the Walkerton zone.  It could have been anyone's game team, so hold your heads high and be proud of the effort each of you displayed tonight.
