Solid Effort By Walkerton's Power Worker's Team
    Tonight at 8pm, Walkerton had a showdown against Milverton and came up short with a 5-4 loss. It was a solid game with lots of action back and forth.  Walkerton's players should be proud of their effort tonight.

    The only scoring in the first period occurred at 7:16 for Milverton as they scored high on the glove side against Christian Kieffer.  It was a well played first period with many solid chances.  A hard shot by Michael McAskill ended the period with Milverton leading by one goal.
    In the early minutes of the second period, Landon Moore deked right and held on to sink the puck for Walkerton. Michael McAskill and Brett Wagner picked up the assists. This goal tied the game at one a piece.  Christian was on his game, providing many key saves throughout the game.  Moments later, Austin Kelly scored inching us head of Milverton.  Jordan Bester and Thomas Crummer notched the assists.  As Milverton applied pressure, the dynamic defensive pairings of Ryan Girdler and Brett Wagner; Cody Jones and Ethan Schmidt; Gina McKee and Ty Arnold provided crisp passing and creative plays.  Kieffer was like a cat, pouncing to make a few vital stops.  Noah Currie also let a lot shot rip that was pushed aside by the goalie.  Bester, Crummer and Kelly teamed up to provide some offensive bursts that were unfortunately cleared.  At 9:27, Milverton had a bullet shot that tied the game again at 2-2.  Walkerton's pressure continued to build as Kelly and Currie teamed up for some near magic, Crummer played his man well and got a clean shot away and Bester was hungry in the offensive zone too. At the 1:41 mark, Landon Moore passed to Michael McAskill who fed it out front of the net to Kelly. Austin tipped it in putting Walkerton in the lead again 3-2.  A  glove save by Kieffer, followed by an offensive burst by Ethan Schmidt ended the period.
    Early in the third period, Milverton scored as the puck went off the post on the short side.  This tied the game 3-3.  Milverton scored again on a shot high, right side.  It was a power play goal, advancing Milverton 4-3.  Serval notable chances came from Moore and McAskill.  As four on four play ensued, Gina McKee held her ground. Later, Ben Schmidt and Joel Pletch offered some offense.  It was Michael McAskill who came up big for Walkerton, tying the game at four a piece as he maneuvered into the offensive zone and shot high. Nice job Michael!  Noah Currie picked up the assist.  A goal by Milverton high on the left side made the score 5-4.  Jayden Louther also pitched in by apply pressure to advance the score for Walkerton and maintained the offensive zone a few times as the clock ticked on.  Penalties hindered the Walkerton players in the last minutes of the came, nonetheless, Girdler displayed some gritty playing as he was rubbed along the board, displayed his speed and agility.  The defense should be applauded for their penalty killing efforts.  The last ditch effort was made by a sprawling Noah Currie as he tired to beat the buzzer. The final score was 5-4 for Milverton. The Walkerton Power Worker's team will practice this weekend then face off against Milverton again on their home ice on Monday night.  Good luck team as we seek a comeback!
