Another Win for Walkerton
The Walkerton Power Worker's team played off against Mildmay yesterday afternoon, gaining their second victory in a row. The team played well offensively and defensively throughout the entire game.  The final score was a shutout for Christian Kieffer in the 6-0 win over Mildmay.

Mildmay may have been the team to get the first shot on net, as Christian Kieffer easily pushed it aside, but it was the Walkerton team who scored first and were energized for the game.  At the 8:00 mark of the first frame, Landon Moore took a shot that rattled the goalie and made him out of position for Mildmay. Without hesitation, Noah Currie followed in and used a wrist shot to scored a beauty goal.  Minutes later, Joel Pletch followed up with another attempt, but was denied. Ethan Schmidt was a consistent player for Walkerton, keeping the play in the offensive zone with a long, hard shot which was handled by the Mildmay net minder.  As Walkerton continued to apply pressure, there was a scurry in front of the Mildmay net. Landon Moore tipped the puck in on the short side. This advanced Walkerton 2-0. Less than a minute later, Landon Moore responded with another unassisted goal.  Walkerton charged on with attempts by Michael McAskill and a breakaway effort by Ryan Girdler.  In the dying seconds of the period, Kieffer held his ground on a couple shots. The period ended with Walkerton ahead 3-0.
The second period was just was eventful for Walkerton.  Ben Schmidt played well and was vital in keeping the puck in play for Walkerton. Following this, Austin Kelly passed to Cody Jones. Jones scored on the glove side making it 4-0.  Christian Kieffer had to be on his toes making a leg save and a hard shot which he handled like a pro, despite not having tons of shots this game.  Even though Walkerton had a two man penalty, they surged on and made clever plays.  Girdler passed to McAskill, netting a shorthanded goal at 8:07 of the period.  The defensive pairings of Gina McKee and Ty Arnold; Ethan Schmidt and Michael McAskill; and Brett Wagner made solid plays which allowed Walkerton to gain ground offensively.  Super job players! The final goal of the game came from Landon Moore at 6:53 of the second period.  This was his second hat trick in a row. Way to go Landon!
During the third period, notable plays came from Jordan Bester as he almost redirected a shot from Ethan Schmidt.  As well, Jayden Louther showed speed and agility as he attempted some magic of his own along side Currie and McAskill.  It was a great team effort as Kieffer picked up a shutout. The Walkerton Power Worker's team will hit the ice today at 5:00 against West Greyfor their first playoff game. We hope to see you there as we cheer on Walkerton!
