Another Loss to the Minto Mad Dogs
It could have been anyone's game tonight, but the Minto Mad Dogs were a little more hungry for the win as the defeated the Walkerton Power Worker's team 5-3. Minto opened the scoring with a goal in the first period.
Walkerton rebounded at the start of the second period as Landon Moore slid the puck to Austin Kelly off a face off. Kelly made no mistake in netting one for Walkerton to tie the game at one a piece. Less than a minute later, Minto scored against net minder, Christian Kieffer, to regain the lead. At 2:50 of the second period, Minto scored again to make it a two goal lead. Walkerton could not be counted out. Ryan Girdler passed to Austin Kelly, who scored. This made it 3-2 for Minto. With 29 seconds left in the second period there was a scramble in front of the Minto net. Girdler came up big, tying the game 3-3. Joel Pletch and Ty Arnold picked up the assists.
In the third period, Minto scored again. Walkerton's team just could not take advantage of their five on three power play opportunity for a sustained period of time. As Walkerton pulled their goalie in a last ditch effort to tie the game up, Minto scored an empty netter. Better luck next time boys! The Walkerton Power Worker's team will hit the ice for practice a couple more times to fine tune their playing before their next game.
