Stayin' Alive!
The Walkerton McIntee Atom Rep Boys trailed the entire game but took the lead when it mattered most! At the final buzzer Walkerton 4 - Minto Mad Dogs 3.
Walkerton and Minto won their respective round robin series and face off in a 3 game series to determine who will take home the Cruickshank Trophy. The teams have been in 1 and 2 positions all year long and now it comes down to the final game to declare the honours.
Walkerton headed into tonight's game in a 1-0 deficit, after losing to Minto last week in Harriston. In a do or die situation it was looking a bit bleak after the 1st period with the Mad Dogs holding a 2-0 lead. At the 4 minute mark of the second period Dakota Weiler put Walkerton on the scoreboard and cut their lead in 1/2 only to have Minto regain their 2 goal lead with a minute left in the second. Weiler's goal was assisted by Tristan Zettel and Jayce Busby.
Determined to take the series to a third game, Walkerton turned it up a notch in the third period, and 2 goals by Carter Buehlow tied it all up at 3. Hunter Zettler and Sam Lowry-Young earned the assists.
Austin Kelly and Tristan Zettel combined for the winning goal and with a great team effort and solid goaltending from Aidan Quish they denied Minto a tying goal and avoided overtime.
Keep the spirit team - you've got what it takes!
The third and final game is Friday night in Walkerton at 6:40 pm, and that's no April Fools!
