The BDO Midget LL boys faced off against Arran Elderslie on Thursday Feb 26 in Walkerton. After stumbling out of the gate (Chesley scored 15 seconds in), BDO dominated the rest of the first period while falling behind 2-0. Goal posts, a disallowed goal, good bounces and perhaps a horseshoe were friends of the Chesley goalie (he did play very well though !!). The second period was more even, when rangy defencement Kalvin Reed snuck off the point into the high slot to roof one over the sprawling goalie, following a goal mouth scramble. BDO Midget LL boys notched their 5th win this week with a dominating 6-0 victory over Hanover#2, in spite of good goaltending by the Hanover goalie. Leading the way was versatile Keith Anstett with a goal and an assist in the key second period. Keith was even seen backchecking and forechecking with great effectiveness. At the intermission Keith was heard promising a hat trick, but he was a marked man in the 3rd (or the gas tank was empty !!) and could not notch those 2 additional markers. After dropping a very close and hard fought game to Barrie on Friday night (4-2 with an empty netter & leading 2-1 with 3 min to go !!) the BDO boys bounced back big time with 3 straight wins. They defeated Mt. Bridges 2-1, Dundalk 1-0 and whipped Durham 5-2 in the consolation finals. Goaltending was excellent from both Mark Ferguson and Chris Flett. Chris's stats are starting to look "sick". After a slow start against Durham in the finals, Captain Nathan O'Hagan scored 4 straight goals to put the game on ice and then hoisted the trophy. A stormy night in Chesley on Jan 16 saw a very shorthanded BDO team play to a 1-1 tie with Arran-Elderslie LL Midgets. BDO has 10 skaters vs. 17 and the second period saw the boys wearing down. Chris Flett played solid and kept the game close when the boys wore down reducing his impressive goals against average to 1.40 in 10 games, with only 1 loss !! After a good rest at intermission the boys came out and controlled the third period holding Chesley to only a few shots. After some slogging, we now have all the player stats displayed under the "player stats" button on the left side of the BDO home page. Check it to see who has the hot hand this year !!
