Playoff Game 4 vs. Saugeen Shores Storm 2
A snowy drive to Southampton is how the Walkerton Capitals started their evening. The rematch from the last game would see several players sitting out due to suspensions and both teams ready to do battle against each other on Friday, Feb. 21, 2020. The game was a close match that would eventually see a winner determined only after a strong game from both teams.

The first period would see some good scoring chances for each team only to have the goalies come up big with some great saves. The Storm would open the scoring mid way through the period when a wrist shot found the back of the net with 5:13 remaining in the first. The Capitals would continue to push but as the period concluded they would find themselves trailing 1-0.

Saugeen Shores would come out quickly in the second, and score in the opening minute to add to it’s lead. Walkerton would respond less then a minute later when Landon Young would fire the puck past the Storm net minder to cut the deficit in half. Assist on the goal was credited to Tyler Wallace. The Capitals would continue to force play in the Saugeen end and would tie the game when Austin Cormack unleashed a shot that squeaked through the goalie and found the back of the net with just under a minute remaining in the period. The period would wrap up with the teams knotted in a tie 2-2.

The Storm would pull ahead in the opening minute of the third with a goal after a goal mouth scramble. The two teams would continue to play good hockey going up and down the ice at a frenzied pace and the Storm would pad it’s lead when a booming slap shot from just inside the blue line found the top corner. Walkerton would drop the game by a final score of 4-2 but were right in the game until the final whistle. The boys will have time to regroup and work on a few things before it’s next game, but can take comfort in the fact they never gave up and battled to the end.
