Playoff Game 3 vs. Saugeen Shores Storm 2
The Walkerton Capitals would play host to the visiting Saugeen Shores Storm 2 team on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2020. The playoff game would have both teams playing a hard game that would find both teams spend a good bit of time in the penalty box and one team walk away with a convincing win.

The first period and the Strom would come out flying,  scoring 2 goals in the first 30 seconds of the game. Walkerton would settle down in it’s own end and Ryan Hinperger would make several key saves to keep the game close. Saugeen Shores would lead 2-0 after the first period in the books.

Things didn’t get much better for the Capitals in the second period as the storm would add 3 more goals to take a 5-0 lead. Walkerton would get the puck past the Saugeen net minder with 9:33 remaining when Tyler Wallace completed a fine passing play with a shot that beat the goalie, assisted by Joshua Flood and Connor Farrell. The Storm would tally again before Jacob Gridler scored to again cut into the lead assisted by Cayleb Pietz.  Saugeen Shores would continue to pressure and would score with just under 2 minutes remaining and take a 7-2 lead into the third period.

During the third period the Capitals would find themselves working hard and would be rewarded when Cayleb Pietz scored unassisted , and Austin Cormack would score from just inside the blue line after taking a cross ice pass from Colby Schmidt, both goals coming on the power play. The game would become a chippy affair with both teams making repeated visits to the penalty boxes. The Storm would score on one of it’s power plays only to have Walkerton score a minute later when Cayleb Pietz scored his second of the game assisted by Landon Young. Saugeen Shores would add 2 more in the final two minutes. With only 7 seconds remaining a fight would break out after tempers finally boiled over, as 1 fight ended a second broke out resulting in a 2 game and 4 game suspensions for Walkerton players. The Storm would take the game with a convincing 10-5 score. The two teams will play each other again where hopefully cooler heads will prevail.
