Playoff Game 5 vs. Bruce Peninsula Northstars Red
The boys were off to Wiarton on March 5, 2020 to play the Bruce Peninsula
Northstars Red team for an early evening game. The two teams currently sitting
towards the bottom of the standings were looking for a kick start to get right
back into the playoff hunt.
The first period would see Walkerton come out strong and control much of the play in the Northstars end. The goalie would make several great saves to help keep his team in a scoreless battle. Walkerton would hit a goal post late in the frame but neither team would be able to slide one over the goal line before the period concluded.
For as strong as the Capitals played in the first period Bruce Pen. would come out with the same vigour in the second. Both teams would take several penalties in the period but it would be the Northstars who would score on the power play to take the lead at the half way point of the period after a shot off the draw in the Walkerton end. The teams would play back and forth battling as the period ticked away, but Bruce Pen. would hold the 1-0 lead into the final frame.
The third period and the teams would continue to battle in both ends of the ice. Again and again each would test the others goalies but neither net minder was willing to budge. With time ticking away the Capitals would pull their goalie for an extra attacker, it would be the Northstars however who would score with less then a second remaining into a empty net to cement the victory. Walkerton would drop the game 2-0 but still find themselves in the hunt with a home and home series coming up on the weekend.
