Game 14 vs. West Grey Warriors
The Walkerton Capitals were back on the ice after the Christmas break, and would start the new year with a trip over to Durham to play the West Grey Warriors on January 7, 2020.  The match was not the fast paced, high tempo game that the Capitals have been playing over its past several games but more of a neutral zone battle.

The first period would see the two teams start slowly and test the goalies with several early scoring chances.  Both netminders were strong in between the pipes with each one making several key saves.  Walkerton would open the scoring with 5:57 remaining in the period when some hard work along the boards would cause a Warrior turnover.  Jack Walter would fire a low shot that would catch the far corner of the net assisted by Austin Cormack and Xander Thornton.  Walkerton would take a 1-0 lead into the second period.

The second period would see the Warriors come out quickly and fire shots from all over the ice, several shots coming close including two that would ring off the post before finally finding the back of the net with 6:19 remaining to tie the game.  The score would remain knotted at 1-1 as the second period concluded.

The two teams would continue to battle with a lot of the play occurring between the two blue lines.  With time winding down the Capitals would continue to pressure and Jack Walter would score his second of the game after he fired a shot over the glove hand of the Warriors goalie. Cayleb Peitz would be credited with an assist on the play.

Walkerton would hold onto win the game 2-1.  The Capitals are on a 4 game winning streak and hope to keep their good fortunes going as the regular season winds down and the playoffs start.
