Championship Game 2 vs. Listowel Cyclones
The Walkerton Capitals would host Game 2 of the Championship series as the Listowel Cyclones came to play on March 22, 2019. Walkerton would lead the best of 3 series 1-0 and were hoping for a win on home ice to win the series.

The opening minutes of the game would see each team come out strong and put quality shots on net, only to have them turned away by some fine goaltending from each side. Listowel would open the scoring midway through the period, and then score again in the final minute on the power play to take a 2-0 lead after the first period of play.

During the second period a lot of the early action would take place in between the blue lines. As the period continued each team would make several great end-to-end rushes. Walkerton would score with 2:31 remaining when some hard work in the Cyclones zone would see defence partners passing the puck along the blue line before Shawn Lacey sent a shot through a maze of players and into the back of the net. Cody McIntyre would get the assist on the play. Listowel would lead 2-1 as the teams headed into the third.

The Cyclones would open the third by scoring twice in the opening minute and a half to take a commanding lead. Walkerton would cut into the lead when Cody McIntyre would take the puck in the neutral zone and go down the wing before lifting the puck into the top corner short side assisting on the goal Owen Young and Ben Eddyvean. Walkerton would keep the pressure on and come close as they would hit a goal post, but some late penalties would slow down the momentum. Walkerton would pull its goalie with just under 3 minutes remaining but the sustained pressure couldn’t pull them any closer.

With the loss, the third and deciding game would take place in Listowel on Saturday. The boys will need to play a more aggressive style game, first to the puck, hard along the boards, and strong back checking, the things that got them to this point in the first place.
