Walkerton was back in Harriston to play the Minto Mad Dogs #1 on Monday, February 22nd in a rematch of Saturday’s game.

            The two teams started with a torrid pace each getting decent shots on net.  It was Minto who would score first at 3:16 when a shot from behind the net bounced off a Walkerton player and into the back of the net.  The Capitals made several rushes into the Minto zone but the shots were covered up and no rebounds were allowed.  The period ended with the Mad Dogs leading 1-0.

 

            The second period and Minto would add to its lead at 1:00 minute into the period.  The Mad Dogs continued to force the play and were rewarded at 3:20 and again 21 seconds later to take a commanding 4-0 lead.  The Capitals found themselves down but they continued to work hard in an attempt to score.

 

            The third period and Walkerton started the period with a flurry of shots directed at the Minto net-minder.  .  Cole Saunders scored after receiving a pass from Cobi Johnson 2 minutes into the period.  The Capitals continued to control the tempo and fire shots on net. Rebounds were to be had but either shots were fired wide or blocked by the goalie or his defencemen.  As time continued to wind down Walkerton pulled its goalie, Tyler Wallace used his speed to get around the defencemen and fired a wrist shot into the top corner with just under 1 minute remaining.  The Capitals would fall 4-2 as the period ended.

 

            The team played hard throughout the game, its persistence and fight to the final buzzer is to be commended.  With 2 games left in the playoffs they will need that drive to continue.
