Playoff Game 6 - Hanover Falcon 1
The Walkerton Capitals played their final game of the season on Tuesday, March 8, and what a game it was. As in previous meetings with the Hanover Falcons it would be a close game with ample scoring opportunities and solid goaltending for both teams.

The first Period had the two teams each pressuring at the front of the opposing net. Each goalie was called upon to make key saves including several from in close after goal mouth scrambles. The period ended with the game knotted at 0.

The second period was much of the same, each team would make several rushes into the others zone. The defence stepped up by blocking shots and clearing attacking players from in front of the net. At times in this period both teams had a defence man behind the goalie ensuring the puck did not cross the line.  The second ended with no scoring.

The third period and again neither team varied from the game plan scoring chances were coming fast and furious as one team came down the ice play was often turned around and it was going back down the other way just as quickly.  As time was winding down Walkerton forced play into the Hanover zone and held possession until a high wrist shot hit the butt end of the goalie stick taking away what was a sure goal.  The  buzzer sounded and it was off to overtime.

The overtime frame was fast paced with end to end action. Each side had a few goal scoring chances.  The two teams played the game as if it was game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.  Then with 3 1/2 minutes remaining Hanover ended the game when a hard pass came out of the corner and a one timer narrowly beat the blocker of the Walkerton net-minder.

Hold your heads high team you had a year that will be hard to beat. You played as a team and for that you are all better players because of it.  Good luck to everyone and continued success in your hockey futures.  Finally a huge thank you to the coaching staff who took these kids and made them all better players.  You all did a great job!
