The Capitals played Game 2 of the
Playoffs on Tuesday, February 16 against the Minto Mad Dogs #2 team in
Harriston. Walkerton was looking to
bounce back from its first loss of the season only a few days earlier, and get
back into the win column.
The two teams started with a slower pace in the early part of the first period with each side getting a few shots on net. Walkerton scored at 3:41 when after some great work behind the net from Colby Schmidt and Cobi Johnson a pass came out to Kyle Rompfh who found the back of the net. The two teams each had several scoring chances but the two goalies allowed no goals. Walkerton lead 1-0 after the first.
The Mad Dogs came out with a lot of speed to start the second and came close to tying up the game several times throughout the period. The Capitals responded by leading several rushes and using its point shot to full advantage but again fine goaltending from the Minto side kept his side in the game and trailing by only 1 as the second concluded.
The third started and the two teams again each had several key scoring opportunities. Minto used its speed to break in on the Capital net but Teghan stopped everything. Walkerton was able to increase its lead when Tyler Wallace came down the wing and cut to the middle before releasing a high wrist shot that beat the glove hand of the Minto net-minder at 6:02. The Capitals continued to pressure and again were rewarded when Jack Walter fired a pass to Emma O’Hagan who sent a hard shot from the hatch marks into the Minto net at 9:34. The teams each had opportunities as the clock continued to wind down but at the final buzzer it was a 3-0 victory for the visiting Capitals.
The two teams played a hard fought game, it was a fast pace game and each team played well. Walkerton continues its playoff run when we host the Minto #1 team on the weekend.
