Game 13 vs. Owen Sound Attack Select

The Walkerton Capitals travelled north to Owen Sound to play an exhibition game against the Owen Sound Attack Atom Select Team. The Sunday evening game was a great way for the team to start the New Year off.

The first period had the two teams each making a few rushes into each opposition zone and testing the goalie early. Approximately half way through the period Walkerton took control and began applying pressure. The passing between the forwards and the defence was clean and precise. This passing paid off when Colby Schmidt sent a pass back to Cole Saunders who fired a wrist shot from just inside the blue line that beat the Owen Sound goalie at 7:26. Walkerton continued to pressure the Attack net and were rewarded when Jack Walter took a pass behind the net from Emma O’Hagan and slid his shot in past the net-minder with 12 seconds remaining in the period. At the end of the first period Walkerton lead 2-0.

The second period again had both teams fighting for control of the puck. The play went back and forth with each team testing each other’s goalie from in close and shots from the point. Each goalie was up to the task and Teghan Kauk made a few key saves. Walkerton killed off 2 penalties late in the period. No scoring occurred during the second period.

The third period started with Owen Sound on the power play and controlling the tempo and play. Teghan made several big time stops. Walkerton again went back to its passing game but the Owen Sound goalie was also up to the task and allowed nothing over the line.

This was a great game for the team and the fans in the stands. Both sides had ample chances but in the end the only scoring was that of the first period. Once again a solid team effort, fast skating, great passing and outstanding goaltending. The team continues to roll on and will need this strong teamwork as we continue to fight for first place overall.
