Game 12 vs. Listowel Cyclones
    Walkerton travelled to Listowel on Saturday, December 19 for an afternoon game.  The Capitals wanted to build on the positives that have been so evident in the past several games and they didn’t disappoint.


            Walkerton came out very quickly and were rewarded when Cole Saunders scored at 1:48 when his wrist shot went high glove side on the Listowel goalie.  With the drop of the puck on the insuring face-off Cole Saunders sent a pass to Kyle Romphf who scored on the Cyclones net-minder 22 seconds after the opening goal. The period ended with the Capitals leading 2-0.

 

            The second started with Walkerton continuing to fire on the Listowel net.  Colby Schmidt scored at 2:13 unassisted.  25 seconds later Jack Walker scored after taking a pass from Emma O’Hagan.  Just over 1 minute later Cole Saunders scored his second of the night assisted by Jack Walker and Liam Osborne.  The Capitals continued with the pressure and were again rewarded when Kody Brown sent a hard pass to a streaking Keegan Batte whose shot beat the Cyclones goalie stick side at 5:32.

 

            Kyle Romphf scored his second of the game assisted by Colby Schmidt and Kody Brown.  The scoring for the second period ended with Owen Young sliding the puck into the Listowel net after a goalmouth scramble assisted by Cole Saunders on a power play.  At the end of the second Walkerton lead 8-0.

 

            The third period had Walkerton again storm the Listowel net and were rewarded when Jack Walter scored his second of the game at 34 seconds of the period assisted by Emma O’Hagan and Kody Brown.  Riley Harris scored at 4:35 when his shot found the back of the net, assists were Tyler Wallace and Owen Young on the power play.  Jack Walter completed his first hat trick when his third goal of the night was scored unassisted at 9:53.  This had a toque fly out from amongst the crowd and land on the ice to the delight of all.  Kody Brown then scored from the blue line with his shot beating a screened goaltender, assisted by Tyler Wallace.  Liam Osborne scored at 14:10 assisted by Jack Walter to round out the scoring for the Capitals and a 13-0 win.

 

            Walkerton’s Teghan Kauk records back-to-back shutouts in the win, making a few key saves down the stretch.  The passing amongst the forwards and defensive passing was precise this afternoon.   The defense was exceptional with its back checking throughout the game allowing only a handful of scoring opportunities by the Cyclones.
