The Capitals played host to the West Grey Warriors 2 team on Tuesday, December 15th.  Walkerton was hoping to continue its winning streak while West Grey was wanting to turn the tables from the lost they suffered a little over a week earlier.

            Walkerton came out with a lot of jump to start the game.  They pressured the Warriors end and were rewarded when Colby Schmidt sent a pass to Matthew McNaughton who sent his shot over a sprawled goalie at 2:33.  Walkerton continued to work hard in the corners and the perseverance paid off when Cole Saunders came in on a breakaway and fired his wrist shot glove side into the Warrior net at 5:00.  The period concluded with each firing shots on net only to have them turned away by some fine goaltending.

 

            The second period started with each team making several end to end rushes and going to the net in search of rebounds.  The passing that Walkerton showed throughout the game was top notch and the aggressive play in the corners and neutral zone was fantastic.  Cobi Johnson scored at 8:17 unassisted as he increased the Walkerton lead to 3-0.

 

            The third period had the two teams fighting for control of the puck.  The defense on each side did their best to prevent shots from getting to the net, any that did were turned away. Teghan Kauk did a great job controlling rebounds and steering loose pucks into the corner and out of harms way.  Kody Brown completed the scoring when at 12:19 of the period his shot beat the Warrior goalie.

 

            Overall this might have been one of the strongest team efforts we have played this season.  Every player worked hard and fought for the puck, hard shooting, and great puck control from the defensive to offensive zones.
