Game 10 vs. West Grey Warriors 1
The Walkerton Capitals travelled over to Durham on Sunday, December 13th for a rematch against the West Grey Warriors 1 team.  Now if you’re the superstitious type playing your 13th game of the season on the 13th of the month and the game started at 3:13 might make you just a little nervous, it however did affect our Capitals.

The Capitals played with a lot more gusto right from the opening face off Walkerton fired pucks at the West Grey net only to have the net-minder make some fantastic saves.  Walkerton was able to get the first goal when Cole Saunders sent a pass to a streaking Tyler Wallace who lifted a wrist shot over the blacker of the Warrior’s goalie at 6:41.  The period ended with both sides making rushes into the opposition zone but only the one goal to show for the work.

The second period was pre of the same Walkerton controlled most of the play but again the goalie stopped everything sent his way. Our own goalie Teghan Kauk made several key saves when called upon.  With just over 1 minute remaining in the period Cobi Johnson found a loose puck at center ice and took off towards the West Grey net and buried his shot to the back of the net.  Walkerton lead 2-0 at the end of the 2nd.

The third period had West Grey storm the Walkerton net and were rewarded when at 7:47 a wrist shot beat the Walkerton net-minder, and cut the lead in half.  Emma O’Hagan restored the 2 goal lead when she took a pass from Cole Saunders and scored at 10:59.  37 seconds later Tyler Wallace scored his second of the game when he took a pass from Keegan Batte and put his shot over the goalie’s glove.  The scoring concluded when Emma O’Hagan scored her 2nd of the game when on a breakaway deak the goalie, pulled the puck back and fired her shot over the down and out goalie.

Walkerton played an excellent game with strong goaltending, defense that fought for each and every puck, and forwards that had precise passing and back checking that help shut down the West Grey team.
