John Ernewein Juveniles Take Home Opener
It wasn't the best of starts but it finished well!

After an emotionally and physically draining 6 games series (last 4 games in 4 days) the guys showed some carry over effects as they started this game a little lethargic. Mooretown tried to assert their forecheck early and build some early momentum but it was the Capitals who bulged the twine first at the 8:19 mark by Jake Barclay with assists going to Andrew Dentinger and Kurt Petrik. This series opening goal seemed to spark the team as they did a more effective job of getting pucks in deep and turning around the Mooretown defense. The juvies scored again at 2:22 of the first off of the stick of Dentinger from Adam Dales and Nathan O'Hagan. Mooretown showing some character answered back less than a minute later scoring at 1:26 and the period ended with the hometown team leading 2 - 1. Back and forth play continued for most of the second until Walkerton took a penalty and Mooretown capitalized at 3:18 on the power play to even the match at 2. As is the norm, special teams continued to be an important aspect of the game as the Capitals got a power play of their own and took the lead again with 1 second left in the power play and 1:03 to go in the period as Dentinger got his second of the game unassisted on a wrap around off of a defensive zone giveaway. In the third, the Capitals found their legs and their puck moving skills as they made better decisions and moved the puck more effectively and cashed in two more times and sealing the series opening win 5 -2. Third period goals came from Paul Gill with helpers going to Scott Fidler and Adam Dales and another power play marker from Andrew Walsh assisted by Kyle Parks. Game two is tomorrow (Sunday 18th) at 12 pm. Come on out and support the Capitals in their quest. Go Capitals Go!!
