Walkerton Takes 2-0 Series Lead against Kincardine
Plenty of penalties, but plenty of goals earned the Walkerton McIntee Atom Rep Boys a 2-0 series lead against the Kincardine Kinucks with a Valentine's Day 5-1 win complete with Mrs. Visser's famous shortbread cookies for the winners.
Walkerton was in the penalty box on the first shift of the game but fought it off and took a 2-0 lead into the second period. Austin Kelly and Brayden McKenzie scored unassisted.
Carter Buehlow scored a shorthanded goal, assisted by Noah Leslie and minutes later Hunter Zettler gave Walkerton a 4-0 lead. Dakota Weiler earned the assist.
The Capitals played 8 minutes of the third period shorthanded, but even so Evan Visser scored Walkerton's 2nd shorthanded goal of the night, assisted by Sam Lowry-Young to extend the lead. Goaltender Aidan Quish continued to protect his net.
Kincardine continued to pressure and denied Quish a shutout late in the third period. Playing against an empty net, and 6 attackers, Walkerton with 2 men short held the Kinucks scoreless in the last 2 minutes of play.
Walkerton will host Kincardine again Friday night at 6:40 for Game 3. Come on out and show your support!
