Walkerton McIntee Atom Rep Strike First in Series Opener
On a blustery winter's day the McIntee Atom Rep team travelled to Kincardine to face the Kinucks in Game 1, of a 5 game series. The series winner will move onto the semi-finals in the OMHA playdowns.
A determined Walkerton team skated on to the opponent's rink looking to take home a victory in Game 1. They got what they went for, with a 3-1 victory. Both goalies turned away several shots in the first period until finally Walkerton scored. Drew Cobean found Brayden McKenzie's rebound and passed it out to waiting defenceman Sam Lowry Young, who skated in with his blistering slapshot and found the back of the Kincardine net to take a 1-0 lead late in the 1st period. Kincardine tied the game midway through the second.
The score remained tied until Carter Buehlow scored with 26 seconds left in the second period, assisted by Hunter Zettler.
Walkerton's insurance goal came at the 8 minute mark of the third, when Evan Visser tipped in McKenzie's rebound, also assisted by Dorian Charette.
Goaltender Aidan Quish's shutout streak came to an end after an incredible 11 period shutout! Congratulations Aidan!
Walkerton will host Game 2 on February 14th at 6:15.
