McIntee Atom Rep Boys Advance to Next Round
Mitchell handed Walkerton a spoiler on Sunday night in the form of a 2-1 loss and narrowed the 6 point series to 4-2 for Walkerton. Walkerton had no plans to extend the series to Game 5 and proved that in tonight's 9-1 victory.
Like Game 3, both Goaltenders were "hot" and it appeared that it was going to be another nail biter. There was no scoring until Captain Brayden McKenzie scored unassisted with 16 seconds left in the 1st period. The first half of the second period held both teams off the scoreboard until Mitchell tied the game at the 4 minute mark but Tristan Zettel would regain the lead for Walkerton 11 seconds later. That goal would be the game turning point as Walkerton scored twice to take a 4-1 lead into the third and final period. Goal scorers were Evan Visser and Austin Kelly.
Walkerton exploded for 5 goals in the 3rd period, three from McKenzie and two from Visser. Noah Leslie contributed 3 assists to Walkerton's win and Zettel had 1 assist.
Walkerton now advances to a 6 point series against Kincardine to determine who will represent the WOAA Atom B division in the OMHA playdowns.
