Knights Win Five In A Row!
Written by Shannon Busby
The Walkerton Knights of Columbus Atom Girls rep team has had a busy month of January while trying to prepare themselves for Provincial play downs.

Walkerton dominated 5 games as they recorded 5 wins! Jan 2 the girls hosted Mildmay for an exhibition game. The girls skated hard to a 4-2 win despite a goalie that kept the game close for Mildmay. Michelle Bester opened with the first goal with nice passes from Joelle Busby and Arianne Beglaw. The second goal was netted by Busby with a pass from Leah Kittel. Jasmine Thompson then made a rush for the third goal. Busby then scored the last goal of the game with help from Bester and Jenna Haight . Strong play was exhibited by Madison Elliot defensively. Jan 8 the atoms faced Tiverton. The girls demonstrated excellent passing ability, offence and defense as they dominated the game with an 8-0 score. The scoring was spread throughout the tam. Busby (2), Bester (1), Kittel (1), Jenah Van Loon (1), Natalie Hawkins (1) and Beglaw (1). Assists went to Haight (1) and Kittel (2). The shutout went to Charlene  “Pippi” Sullivan. The atom team showed much of the same type of play on Jan 19th as they outplayed Wiarton. The final score was 8-1 in Walkerton’s favour. Emily Cormack recorded a hat trick, Melynda McKenzie scored once as did Monica Fritz, Thompson , Busby and Kittel. Also contributing with team play was Ashley Ernst. Walkerton again played Wiarton on their home ice on Jan 26. Despite a strong showing of defence by Wiarton’s goalie, Walkerton prevailed. Cormack led with a hat trick, along with goals scored by Thompson and Busby. Assists went to Haight and Busby. Walkerton persisted with another win against Saugeen Shores. The coaches were thrilled as they watched the girls move the puck around with calculated passes and heads up play. Sullivan, again earned a shutout, as her team racked up four goals. All goals were assisted twice, as evidence to perfect passing! Goals were netted by Bester, Busby, Cormack and Thompson. Assists were awarded to Kittel(4), Haight (3) and McKenzie (1). February will prove to be an exciting month of hockey as the team enters round robin play for an opportunity to compete in the provincials in April. Coaching staff consists of Brian Busby, Tom Kittel, Andy Cormack with trainers Bonnie Thompson and Shannon Busby.
