Atom Knights Have Been Busy
Written by Cheryl Kuntz
It has been a busy schedule of hockey for the Walkerton Knights

recording one win, three losses, and one tie.
On Friday, November 23 the team traveled to Owen Sound to participate in the Regional Women's Silver Tournament.  Their first match up was against Kincardine. Despite many scoring opportunities and fast skating the team was defeated 2-0. Next, they played Mitchell which ended in 5-2 loss.Mitchell opened up the scoring in the first period with a quick goal.  Leah Kittel quickly retaliated with assists from Arianne Beglaw and Michelle Bester. Mitchell went up by one but Emily Cormack scored a short handed goal assisted by Joelle Busby that made it 2-2 by the end of the second period. Although the girls skated well, and the defense team of Monica Fritz and Meylenda McKenzie stopped many goal attempts Mitchell scored twice in the third. Their last game of the tournament was against Huron-Perth. This was an excellent match for the girls with many end to end rushes and chances to score but they were unable to put it in the net. Goal tender Charlene Sullivan  made some key saves.  The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
In regular play the girls had another mantch up with Kincardine on home ice.  They had many chances but Kincardine's goalie proved to be outstanding and the game ended in a 5-0 loss. They travelled to Desboro on December 8.  Desboro was no match for the team as the game ended  8-0 for Walkerton.  Goals were scored by Kittel, Bester, Natalie Hawkins, Jasmine Thompson, Ashley Ernest, Beglaw and Madison Elliott.  Assists went to Bester, Cormack, Ernest, Thompson, Jenna Haight, Jenah VanLoon, McKenzie,Kittel and Busby.
