Playoff Game 9 vs Saugeen Shores Storm (2)
The Walkerton Capitals would travel to Southampton on March 16, 2024 to play the Saugeen Shores Storm (2).  The game would be highly contested spirited tilt with both teams scoring some truly highlight goals.

The first period and the Capitals would come out quickly and Spencer Odell would go five hole to open the scoring just over a minute into the period.  Chase Kaufman would pick up the assist.  The Capitals would increase its lead when Colby Schmidt scored on the wrap around from behind the net.  Curtis Rowe would pick up the assist on this goal.  Down but not out the Storm would score just nine seconds later to cut the Walkerton lead in half.  The two teams would continue back and forth but it would be the Capitals who would be rewarded when Chase Kaufman fired a wrist shot that would beat the glove hand of the Storm netminder.  Spencer Odell would be credited with the assist.  Walkerton would hold a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period.

The second period and the intensity was on full display.  The Storm would come out quickly and make several quick rushes into the Walkerton zone.  A break away sent a Storm player in alone on Walkerton goalie, Owen Waddell, who made an excellent stop the puck was cleared and resulted in a two on one the other way.  Logan Anness would bury a hard shot after taking the feed from Spencer Odell to add to the Walkerton lead.  Less than a minute later the Capitals were pressing again when Kyle Graul intercepted a clearing attempt and lifted the puck into the roof of the Storm’s net.  Walkerton held a 5-1 lead after two periods completed.

The third period and again it would be the Storm who would come out quickly.  While short handed the Storm would score with a shot that went just under the crossbar.  Saugeen Shores would then score on the powerplay to narrow the Walkerton lead.  The two teams continue to battle and the Capitals would have a partial break away only to have the skater hauled down and be awarded a penalty shot.  The penalty shot was stopped and the teams would continue to play solid hard hockey right to the final buzzer.

The two goalies would make several excellent saves as the game came to an end and score could have been much higher either way if not for the skill in between the pipes.  The win puts the Capitals into first place on top of the standings and with one game left to go and only a single point separating the top two teams it will come down to the final game.  Go Caps Go!!
