Game 19 vs. Kincardine Kinucks 1
Another Friday night in Walkerton can only mean the Capitals
were back on the ice as their regular season continues to wind down. This week they would play host to the
visiting Kincardine Kinucks 1 team. The
weather outside was warm and pleasant but inside would turn feisty as things
would heat up inside the arena late in the period.
The Capitals would come out quickly in the first period and
be rewarded when Travis Goll scored from the bottom edge of the faceoff circle
assisted by Kyle Graul and Curtis Rowe.
Walkerton would continue to force the play and would again be rewarded
after some hard work behind the net and a great tape to tape pass from the side
boards found a streaking Travis Goll who would score half way through the
period. Jasper Rowe and Spencer Odell
would pick up the assists on the play.
The hat trick would be completed with just over a minute remaining in
the period when Travis Goll recorded his third goal of the game after jumping
on a big rebound and finding the back of the net. Assisting on the Goll would be Keegan Batte
and Kyle Graul. After the first period the
Capitals would hold a 3-0 lead.
The start of the second period would again see Walkerton
come out quickly and be rewarded when Marshall Odell scored from in tight lifting
the puck into the roof of the net.
Spencer Odell and Chase Kaufman would get the assists on the goal. The Kincardine Kinucks would score just as a
man advantage expired to cut into the Walkerton lead after some great passing
in the Capitals end, and potentially turn the tied in the visitor’s favour.
Walkerton would, however, have none of it and Marshall Odell would score just thirty
seconds later after shooting the puck over the shoulder of the Kincardine
netminder. Assisted were awarded Chase
Kaufman and Duncan Abell. The scoring
would continue when Travis Goll scored his fourth of the game after jumping on
a rebound at the side of the net. Keegan
Batte and Logan Annes would get the helpers on the goal. Walkerton’s Kyle Graul would score with just
over six minutes remaining in the period when he buried a loose puck at the
edge of the crease. Keegan Batte and
Logan Anness would be credited with assist on the goal. The Capitals would hold a 7-1 lead after two
periods of play.
The Capitals would come out flying to start the third period
and again be rewarded when Colby Schmidt slid a loose rebound under the pads of
the Kincardine goalie. Jasper Rowe and
Matthew McNaughton would pick up the assists on the goal. Kyle Graul would score thirty seconds later
when his shot found the top corner, helpers credited to Logan Anness and Travis
Goll. The Capitals would hit double
digits when Colby Schmidt used his long reach to wrap the puck around the
goalie from the far side of the net, assists awarded to Connor Farrell and Curtis
Rowe. Things would take a bit of a nasty
turn midway through the period when Walkerton player would come to the defense
of teammate after an illegal head contact hit.
Things would settle down and when play resumed Kincardine would score
with just over two minutes remaining just after a faceoff in the Walkerton
end. The final minute would see more
tempers flare when a Kincardine player would receive a five minute major and
game misconduct with other players trying to egg on Walkerton skaters. The Walkerton players would not back down
standing up for both themselves and each other.
Walkerton would skate away with a convincing 10-2 victory.
The Capitals would play another solid game with good puck
movement and another strong passing game.
The team played well in front of its goalie blocking pucks and clearing
players from in front of the net allowing the goalie to see most of the shots
fired at the Walkerton net.
