Game 18 vs Owen Sound Jr. Attack
The Walkerton Capitals would travel to Owen Sound on
Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 to play the Owen Sound Jr. Attack. The game would see the Capitals play a strong
game with lots of effort from everyone right from the opening faceoff.
The Capitals would control the tempo of the game from the
faceoff and would go straight on the attack in the opposition zone. Luka Abell would open the scoring after skating
from behind the net and firing the puck stick side, Jasper Rowe and Colby
Schmidt would pick up the assist on the play.
Walkerton would continue to press and two minutes later after some great
passing Connor Farrell would score from the side of the net tucking the puck
past the goalie after collecting a rebound.
Assisting on the play were Jasper Rowe and Niklas Howald. The scoring would continue when Kyle Graul
fired a writ shot that squeaked under the pads of the Attack goaltender, the
assists were credited to Keegan Batte and Curtis Rowe. Walkerton would score again when Keegan Batte
snapped a shot from the top of the faceoff circle that found the top corner in
the final half minute of the period. Assisting on the goal were Kyle Graul and
Logan Anness. The Walkerton Capitals
would lead 4-0 after the first period.
The second period would start with the Capitals continuing
to force the play. Chase Kaufman would
score off the rebound, assisting on the goal were Spencer Odell and Duncan
Abell just one and a half minutes into the period. Owen Sound would fight back and would have
several decent scoring chances but goaltender Owen Waddell would stand tall
between the pipes. An Owen Sound player
would come in on a break away and fire a shot that between Owen stick side but
the puck wrang off the crossbar and into the corner where it was quickly
cleared. Logan Anness would score with
just under five minutes remaining assisted by Kyle Graul and Travis Goll. The Capitals would score on a five minute
power play when Luka Abell scored his second of the game with a snap shot from
just inside the blueline, assists were awarded to Chase Kaufman and Spencer
Odell. Walkerton would lead 7-0 after
two periods in the books.
The third period would see both teams continue battling for
puck control and possession time. The
passing game was outstanding as the Walkerton players cycled the puck with
precision and skill. Marshall Odell
would score a shorthanded goal when a wrist shot handcuffed the Owen Sound
netminder before finding the back of the net.
Jasper Rowe would get an assist on the goal. The scoring would wrap up when Chase Kaufman
scored his second of the game when he went upstairs from in tight assisting on
the goal were Spencer Odell and Matthew McNaughton. The Walkerton Capitals would go on to win 9-0
in an convincing manner but the score could have been much higher if not for
some outstanding saves from the Owen Sound netminder.
To say that this was a team effort would be an understatement. Each and every player was recorded on the
score sheet picking up at least one point.
The passing was crisp and on target, players blocked shots, intercepted
passes in the neutral zone and played not as individuals but as a team. The results speak for themselves. A true team effort. Owen Waddell would pick up another shutout
win and while not facing a lot of shots was
stellar when called upon.
