The Walkerton Capitals would travel to Lucknow on Sunday,
December 10, 2023 to take on the Huron-Bruce Blizzard White. The game would be a rematch of the last game
and again it would be a close and highly entertaining game.
The first period and both teams would play a fast paced and
hard fought opening period. Walkerton
would open the scoring with just over a minute remaining on the clock. Kyle Graul would take a hard pass from Spencer
Odell before going in alone on a break away and firing a wrist shot into the
back of the net. Walkerton would lead
1-0 after the first fifteen minutes.
The two teams would start the second period at a torrid pace
and both teams would come close but the two young goaltenders were stellar in
between the pipes. The Capitals would increase
its lead while on the power play when Chase Kaufman deflected a shot from the
point that beat the Blizzard netminder.
Luka Abell would get the assist on the play and Walkerton would take a
2-0 lead into the third period.
The third period and the tempo did not slow up at all. The Blizzard would press but Owen Waddell was
outstanding in the Walkerton net. He was
able to cover up and limit rebounds with the help of a solid defensive
crew. The Capitals would hold possession
through the later stages of the period and using a strong passing game they
continued to press. With 3:34 remaining
Walkerton’s Logan Anness would score from the slot area assisted by Chase
Kaufman and Kyle Graul. The Capitals would
go on to win the game 3-0 with Owen picking up the shutout in net for the
Capitals.
A strong game from all of the Walkerton players battling
hard along the boards, holding the puck at the blueline and strong crisp passes
all added up to success for the visiting Capitals.
