The Walkerton Capitals would play host to the Huron-Bruce
Blizzard White team on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. The game would be end to end battles and
would feature some outstanding goaltending from both teams.
The first period would see strong play along the boards and
the two teams would battle hard in front of the nets. It would be the Blizzard who would open the
scoring with just over 5 minutes remaining, and take that one goal lead to the
end of the first period.
The Capitals would come out quickly in the second period and
would be rewarded when Connor Farrell tipped the puck into the net. Assists were credited to Jasper Rowe and
Colby Schmidt. Midway through the period
anther tip shot would elude the Blizzard goalie when Jasper Rowe got his stick
on a blast from the point. Luka Abell
and Keegan Batte would pick up the assists after some fine work along the blue
line. Walkerton would take a 2-1 lead
into the third period.
The third period and again the teams were up and down the
ice and testing the goalies from everywhere including several in close. Midway through the period the Blizzard would tie the game
after a goalmouth scramble in front of the net.
Try as they might the Capitals continued to press but would not be able
to get another one passed the goaltender and would settle for a tie. The teams will play again on Sunday and Walkerton
will be hoping for another strong performance from its players.
