The Capitals would host the Huron-Bruce Blizzard Grey on
Tuesday, November 2nd. While
still early in the season the game would feature the top two teams of the North
Division standings and with only one point separating first and second place it
was shaping up to be an entertaining game.
The first period started with a feverish pace and each team
had several decent scoring opportunities. The Capitals would open the scoring
with just under six minutes remaining when Marshall Odell scored from the high
slot area, assisted by Curtis Rowe and Luka Abell. Walkerton would add to its lead with time
winding down when a slap shot from Keegan Batte beat the Blizzard netminder,
assisting on the play were Travis Goll and Marshall Odell. Walkerton would lead 2-0 after the first 15
minutes.
The Capitals would continue to play hard and would be
rewarded early in the second period when Travis Goll took a pass from Kyle
Graul from behind the net and scored on a wrist shot in off the post. Travis would then score later in the period with
just over 4 minutes remaining when a pass from Marshall Odell found the top
corner of the net. Walkerton would lead
4-0 after two periods of play.
The Blizzard would score just 18 seconds into the third when
a shot from the point beat Walkerton’s goalie.
The Capitals would respond quickly restoring its 4 goal lead when
Marshall Odell jumped on his own rebound and went five hole to record his
second goal of the game. Assisting on
the play was Chase Kaufman. The two
teams would continue to battle back and forth but there would be no more
scoring but not for lack of trying.
Walkerton would skate away with a hard fought victory and in doing so
would pad its early lead in the standings.
A huge shout out to Del Freiburger who stepped up to fill in
for our vacationing goaltender. Del went 4-0-1
over the weeks holiday and at only 13 years old his future with the Walkerton
Capitals looks bright. Thank you Del!
