The Capitals were on the road in Southampton for a game on
Monday, November 20th to play the Saugeen Shores Storm 2. The game would see both teams battle while
limiting scoring opportunities by its opponent.
The game would see each team make several rushes into the
oppositions end early in the period only to have the defending team harmlessly
clear the puck before any damage could be done.
It would be the Storm who would score late in the period and hold onto a
1-0 lead as the period concluded.
The second period and again it was the defense limiting any
scoring opportunities by keeping play to the outside and blocking shots. Midway through the period the Storm would score
again to increase its lead. As the period
continued the Capitals would begin to press and start taking play to the Storm
but would find themselves trailing 2-0 at the end of two periods of play.
The start of the third period and Walkerton would come out
quickly and be rewarded for it. Just a
minute into the period Connor Farrell would jump on a juicy rebound and fire
the puck into the back of the net, assists on the play were awarded to Colby
Schmidt and Keegan Batte. The Capitals
would continue to send pucks at the Storm net but couldn’t get anything past the
goalie. With time winding down Walkerton
would pull its goaltender for an extra man.
A faceoff in the Storm zone allowed the coaches to call a timeout and
draw up a play. The Capitals Luka Abell
would win the faceoff and pull the puck back where Kyle Graul would step into a
hard slapshot that would beat the netminder with only 17 seconds remaining.
The Capitals would tie the game late and salvage a valuable
point. The boys played better as the
game went on and didn’t give up when they found themselves trailing. The never give up spirit was alive and well with
the team and to a player they each stepped up when called upon.
