Game 5 vs Owen Sound Jr. Attack
The Walkerton Capitals would host the Owen Sound Jr. Attack
on Friday, November 17, 2023. The second game in a five game stretch over seven
days the two teams would clash in a hard fought and tight well played game from
beginning to end.
The Capitals would open the scoring early in the first
period when Chase Kaufman would find the back of the net after taking a pass
from Kyle Graul. The two teams would
continue to battle back and forth but after the first fifteen minutes it would
be Walkerton who would lead 1-0.
There would be no scoring in the second period but not for
the lack of trying. The goaltenders were both solid in the nets. Del Freiburger was again in net for Walkerton
and would be tested from in close and from several shots from the blueline but
he was once again strong in the blue ice.
The third period and the Capitals would continue to force
the play and would be rewarded when Logan Anness lifted a puck over a diving
Owen Sound player and past the Attack goaltender. Luka Abell would be credited with assist on
the play. Walkerton would score with
just over three minutes remaining when Chase Kaufman sent a saucer that Kyle
Graul would get a stick on and tip the puck stick side of the goalie to find the
back of the net.
The game was a tight and highly contested battle from start
to finish. The two teams played hard and
each had some great scoring opportunities but some outstanding goaltending from
both sides kept the game close until the final buzzer.
