The Walkerton Capitals U18 LL would play its first home game
on November 3rd, 2023 against the Bruce Peninsula Predators. A good crowd was on hand and were treated to
a high scoring game.
The Capitals would open the scoring five and a half minutes
into the first period when Spencer Odell scored from the slot area after taking
a pass from Matthew McNaughton.
Walkerton would score just 15 seconds later when Marshall Odell went top
corner after finishing a three way passing play, assisting on the play were Spencer
Odell and Colby Schmidt. The Capitals
would add to its lead when Kyle Graul would beat the Predators goalie stick
side after takin a pass from Luka Abell.
Walkerton would lead 3-0 after the first 15 minutes.
Walkerton would come out quickly in the second period and
storm the net and fire pucks from every angle.
Jasper Rowe would slide the puck past the Predators netminder after
taking a pass from Keegan Batte. The
scoring would continue when a hard wrist shot from Luka Abell found the back of
the net, assisting on the play were Chase Kaufman and Kyle Graul. The goals would continue when Spencer Odell
scored after firing the puck over the glove hand and top corner. Matthew McNaughton and Marshall Odell would
be credited with assists on the play.
Colby Schmidt would score after sliding the puck into an open corner
after taking a centering pass from Chase Kaufman from behind the net. Walkerton would lead 7-0 after two periods of
play in the books.
The third period and Walkerton would continue to press and would
be rewarded when Chase Kaufman scored unassisted just over two minutes into the
period. The Predators would then score
to break the Walkerton shut out with just over 11 minutes remaining. Walkerton’s Jasper Rowe would then score
twice as the period continued both goals unassisted to complete his hat
trick. The Predators would score in the
final minute of the game while on the power play.
The Capitals would win after a strong performance from each
and every teammate. The passing was
crisp and has been improving with every game.
The team has been winning battles in the corners and working on its cycle
game to near perfection. With a little
time off before its next game the coaching staff will be working hard to keep
the team sharp and ready for battle.
