The Walkerton Capitals would travel to Shallow Lake on
November 2nd to play the Lakers.
Walkerton would open the scoring early in the first period
when Chase Kaufman found the back of the net after taking a centering pass from
Kyle Graul. Walkerton would continue to
press in the Lakers zone and would score when Colby Schmidt sent a pass back to
the blue line from where Luka Abell fired a booming slap shot passed the glove
of the Shallow Lake goalie. With time
winding down the Capitals would find the back of the net when Marshall Odell
slid the puck under the Shallow Lake goaltender assisted by Travis Goll and
Luka Abell. Walkerton would lead 3-0
after the first period.
The second period started with a flurry of activity in the
Walkerton end and Shallow Lake would be rewarded by finding the back of the net
to cut into the Walkerton lead.
Walkerton would respond just under a minute later when Kyle Graul scored
after taking a pass from Logan Anness.
The teams continued back and forth action as the period continued and
Shallow Lake would score again to cut the Walkerton lead in half.
To start the third period Walkerton would come out strong
and score two unassisted goals in the opening five minutes. Marshall Odell and Chase Kaufman would each
score for the Capitals. The Lakers would
score with 8:21 remaining but then the Capitals defence would shut down any
Shallow Lake opportunities. Kyle Graul
would lift the puck into the top corner after receiving a centering pass from
Travis Goll with Marshall Odell picking up secondary assist. As the period continued Luka Abell got his
second goal of the game assisted by Keegan Batte.
Tempers would flare in the final minutes but when things
settled down it was the Capitals who would skate away with a convincing win. The score was not indicative of how close
this game was. Walkerton’s goalie Owen
Waddell was very strong in net and was masterful at covering rebounds so that
the Lakers players didn’t get second chances.
