An 8 to 1 loss to our neighbors to the east would certainly not imply that it was a close game at all. Down 7 - 0 after two periods, there's no question that our legs just weren't moving as fast as theirs. We weren't focusing on puck possession, and we gave the home team way too much space.
We went into the intermission and asked the boys to regroup, to leave the first two periods behind, and to go out and take ownership of the third period. We knew that winning the game in the last fifteen minutes would be a stretch, and asked them to simply win the third period. We wanted them to prove to themselves that they could compete.
And they did. Our PeeWee's played their best period of the game, spending more time in the offensive zone. We saw an improvement in foot movement, more back checking, and a better drive for puck possession. While Hanover netted one more goal, Landon Graul supplied the equalizer, with a well placed wrist shot, from just inside the blue line, after a feeder pass from Carson Baglole.
