Game 17 vs. West Grey Warriors
The Walkerton Capitals would play their final regular season
game at home vs. the West Grey Warriors on Friday, February 3rd. The two teams would each have several
scoring opportunities and the game wouldn’t be decided until the final buzzer.
The first period had the two teams firing shots at the opposing nets. Each goalie would make some high quality saves including stopping several with their face masks. A Warrior forward made a rush up the left wing and fired a shot that rang off the crossbar. Walkerton responded soon after by ringing one off the post but neither team would be able to score and the period ended in a scoreless draw.
As the second period started the two teams settled in for more battles over puck possession and scoring chances. Walkerton would fire shot after shot but having the shots hit the mark were harder to come by. The two teams would continue to battle throughout the period and again no scoring resulted and the two teams were locked in a scoreless battle.
The third period and Walkerton would open the scoring with 10:53 remaining when Carson Baglole would score unassisted. The Warriors would battle in an attempt to tie the game but in the end would come up just short. Walkerton’s Talan Hope would record his fourth shut out of the year in a great performance.
The boys finished the regular season with 5 consecutive wins. Their longest winning streak of the season. With the playoffs just around the corner the boys will need to work on their passing game which to this game has been very strong.
