Exhibition Game vs Goderich Sailors
The Walkerton Capitals travelled to Goderich on Sunday, January 15th, 2017 for an exhibition game against the Goderich Sailors #2 team.  The two teams would battle in a hard fought game that would see great scoring opportunities from both sides.

The Sailors came out quickly and peppered the Walkerton net with shot after shot but Talon Hope stood tall in goal.  Walkerton then settled down and started playing its own game and were rewarded with several scoring chances of its own although unable to put anything past the Goderich goalie.  The two teams would continue to fight for puck control throughout the period and as the first came to a conclusion they were locked in a scoreless draw.

The second period was more of the same. Each team had several great scoring opportunities but the two goalies were even better.  Walkerton’s Talon Hope made several fantastic glove saves as the puck was heading top corner.  Walkerton had its own scoring chances but again the back of the net proved elusive.  After 20 minutes the game remained scoreless.

The third period and the two teams came out and gave everything that they had.  Goderich would take a penalty and Walkerton would take full advantage of the extra attacker.  The Capitals would pressure the Goderich zone and just after the Goderich player returned to the ice Dominic Valeriote fired on net from the blue line and Travis Goll would slide the puck past the Sailors net-minder.  Just over two minutes later Goderich would tie the score when a wrist shot caught the far corner of the net.  The Capitals continued to pressure and were rewarded when Travis Goll scored his second of the game to put Walkerton in the lead with just over four minutes remaining.  Goderich responded with a flurry of shots and an extra attacker as they pulled their goalie in the final moments.

The Capitals played hard to the final buzzer and skated away with a hard fought victory.

The boys were skating well and using the break out pass throughout the game to move the puck.  The defence was strong especially in front of our own net.  Goal tending was stellar throughout the game.  The flashing of the glove making the job of the opposing forwards that much more difficult.  A great game put on by two strong teams, each team can hold their heads high for what was a very entertaining game.
