Game 13 vs Hanover Falcons 2
The Walkerton Capitals hoped to start the New Year with a bang as they played their first game of 2017 on Monday, January 2nd against the Hanover Falcons #2 team.  The game was a fast pace, action packed battle from the opening puck drop to the final buzzer.

The two teams would each make end to end rushes to start the game.  Walkerton would open the scoring 3:49 into the first when Mason Lina fired a shot on net and the rebound came out to Travis Goll who found the back of the net.  The Capitals continued to pressure the Hanover zone and were rewarded with 1:06 left in the period when Seth Young slid the puck past the Hanover net-minder, assists were credited to Wes Hunt and Jack Walter.  As the period came to an end Walkerton lead 2-0.

Hanover came out hard to start the second period and would get on the score board just 1:40 into the frame when a Falcon forward slip the puck into the Walkerton net.  The two teams would take turns at each others net with hard shots and great passing but the two goal net-minders were solid in net.  At the end of 20 minutes Walkerton lead 2-1.

The battle would continue into the third and again Hanover would score early when just 3:13 into the period a Hanover goal would tie up the game.  Walkerton would fight back and Travis Goll would score his second of the game at 4:59 with a hard wrist shot low stick side to once again put Walkerton in the lead.  As the two teams continued to fight for the puck, tight battles along the board resulted.  With time winding down both teams would take penalties.  Walkerton would take a late penalty and Hanover pull its goalie for an extra attacker.  The Capitals would play out the final minute of the game 4 against 6 attackers but the players and goalie stood tall.

The Capitals started the New Year off with a win after playing a strong two way game.  Great passing and going to the net, excellent back-checking with strong defensive play and outstanding goaltending were the keys to another successful victory.
