The Walkerton Capitals would travel to Listowel
to play the Listowel Cyclones 1 black team on December 21st, 2016 to
play its last game prior to the Christmas break. The game would be a back and forth battle and only decided in the
final seconds.
Walkerton would come out flying in the first period and would open the scoring early in the frame when a wrist shot went stick side past the Listowel goalie. The two teams would continue at a torrid pace but no further scoring would occur.
The second period and the two teams would continue the strong play and each team would be rewarded because of it. Listowel would tie the game when a scramble in front of the net had a Listowel player slide the puck into the far corner. Walkerton would respond quickly and regain the lead when a shot slid past the goalie and into the Listowel net. Walkerton lead 2-1 after 20 minutes.
The third period and Cyclones came out with an extra step. Listowel would dominant the speed and tempo of play throughout the period. Listowel controlled the play in the Walkerton zone and would be rewarded with a late goal when Walkerton was unable to clear the puck.
The two teams played hard throughout the game and each team walked away with a point. The goalies were kept busy and up to the task. Maybe not our strongest game the Capitals can take this experience and learn from it. Looking forward to the start of the new year and building on a solid foundation of team work.
