The Walkerton Capitals would play the first of a two game
back to back weekend. The Saturday
evening game would be played against the Hanover Falcons 2 team. It would be a tight and hard fought game
that would go right to the final buzzer.
The first period had the two teams each playing a strong skating game with decent scoring chances. Both teams would rely on solid goal tending to keep the game scoreless through the opening frame.
Hanover would open the scoring midway through the second period when the puck would just cross the goal line after a goalmouth scramble. Walkerton would pressure the Hanover net but nothing would beat the goalie. The Capitals would trail 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The Capitals started the third period with continued pressure and shots on net. The two teams would settle in for a defensive battle Hanover content to hold their 1 goal lead. Walkerton’s Travis Goll would tie the game late with a hard wrist shot that beat the glove hand of the Hanover goalie. The score would remain netted at 1 as time expired and the Capitals salvaged a point and kept their unbeaten record intact so far this season. The Capitals continue to improve their game, while the passing game suffered a little with this one the speed of the back-checking was exceptional.
