The Capitals travelled down Highway 4 to Hanover to play the
Falcons 1 team for an early evening game on Sunday, November 30th. The two teams each undefeated would play a
highly entertaining and exciting game.
The first period and the two teams would each make the other work hard. The two goalies would be tested early but both were up to the task each making impressive saves. Walkerton would score 6:30 into the frame when Travis Goll took a hard pass from Mason Lina and scored after releasing a wrist shot into the top corner. The Capitals would add to the lead when Carson Baglole passed to Jack Walter who sped down along the wing made a great toe drag around the Falcons defender and then slipped the puck past the Hanover goalie with 1:02 remaining. Walkerton lead 2-0 after the first 10 minutes.
Walkerton would add to its lead early in the second when Wes Hunt sent a cross ice pass to Matthew McNaughton who split the Hanover defense before he fired a hard shot past the goalie and caught the far corner of the net just 53 seconds into the middle frame. The two teams would settle into a back and forth battle with both net-minders making key saves throughout the period. After 20 minutes Walkerton would lead 3-0.
The Capitals would start the third period under constant pressure from the Hanover forwards. Hanover would make several excellent shots but the Capitals goalie, Talan Hope was exceptional in net making save after save. Rebounds were kept to a minimum and those that did escape his glove were cleared to the corner or sent down the ice and out of harms way.
The Capitals would defeat Hanover 3-0 in what was a highly entertaining game. Both teams played hard throughout and the Walkerton goals were nothing short of fantastic. The two teams will once again play each other in a rematch this time in Walkerton.
